Contact Probes and Receptacles, NPT2 / NRT2 Series
NPT2 contact probes with NRT2 receptacles for continuity testing. Choose the probe tip shape and receptacle terminal shape; minimum mounting pitch, full stroke, spring force, allowable current, resistance and replacement guideline are listed per model.
- NPT2 contact probes are available with V, B, A1, D and F tip shapes.
- NRT2 receptacles offer CR and SC terminal shapes and combine with NPT2 probes.
- The NRT2 reference press-fit mounting-hole diameter is φ1.75mm.

Contact probe overview
Overview
Can be used for continuity testing of all kinds of electronic circuits.
How to use
- Drill holes in a resin plate (such as Bakelite) and press-fit the receptacles.
- If hole machining leaves gaps, fill them with adhesive (such as Loctite).
- Wire the receptacles. When soldering, do not let solder pass the stopper into the receptacle.
- Insert the contact probes. Do not press the plunger hard, as this may damage the tip or internals.
Before actual use, testing several times in the operating environment is recommended.
Main types and typical applications
| Type | Typical applications |
|---|---|
| Contact probe | For a wide range of uses, including printed circuit boards, board mounting, semiconductor and in-circuit testing, and harness testing. |
| Double-ended probe | No receptacle is needed, allowing a narrower mounting pitch. |
- *Because of the manufacturing method, the solder type (SC) has a bulge on the outside of the end.
Pressing firmly into the mounting hole causes no performance problems, but adjust the O.D. as needed.
General environmental conditions
Ambient temperature 10 to 40°C, humidity 30% or less
Ambient atmosphere: an environment that does not contaminate the contact probe, such as one free from dust, corrosive gases and oil.
Stroke conditions
Apply load only in the axial direction of the contact probe, not laterally.
Stroking beyond the specified stroke (2/3 of full stroke) greatly shortens contact probe life.
Stroking at 60 cycles/min (constant speed) or more may shorten contact probe life.
Current application conditions
Pass current with the probe in contact with the target and stationary at the specified stroke position.
Passing current while not in contact with the target (open), or outside the specified stroke during stroking, may greatly shorten contact probe life.
Voltage application conditions
Apply voltage with the probe in contact with the target and stationary at the specified stroke position.
Do not apply voltage while not in contact with the target (open). Discharge just before contact will damage the contact probe.
When applying high voltage to contact probes, strictly follow the current and voltage application conditions and watch for momentary high currents, including discharge.
Resistance
High currents may increase resistance due to wear of the contact and internal parts.
With repeated strokes, resistance may increase due to wear of the contact and internal parts.
Replacement guide (cycles)
Depending on the environment and conditions, resistance may rise or spring force fall so replacement is needed before the guide count. Replace to suit actual use.
Spring force
Spring force decreases when the contact probe temperature is 80°C or more.
Higher currents may lower the spring force due to heat in the contact probe.
Mounting hole dimensions for press fitting (reference)
Reference values; they vary with the resin plate material and thickness. Design with reference to the receptacle press-fit dimensions.
Minimum mounting pitch
Minimum center distance between adjacent contact probes.
