After synthetic rubber comes into contact with different liquids, the following phenomena may occur depending on the liquid:
● Swelling after absorbing liquid (expansion)
● Bond breakdown after chemical reaction (decomposition)
● Product becomes thinner after additives precipitate (extraction)
These adverse reactions for rubber often cause poor sealing performance in sealing products. It is recommended to confirm whether the material reacts with the sealing medium before selecting sealing product materials.
In addition, temperature and types of additives also affect the reaction results. Even for the same medium, reactions differ at different temperatures. Mixed liquids have a multiplying effect, significantly increasing the impact on rubber.
