Timing belt structure

G type / GB type
*GB (bareback) type: Minimal rubber powder scattering enables clean operation.

Features and compatible conditions based on structure
- Widely used for industrial applications.
- Can also be used for high loads.
- The standard belt can be used within a temperature range of -30°C to +80°C. If heat resistance up to 100°C is required, please use a heat resistant belt.
- The standard belt has conductivity. (Electrical resistance: 6 MΩ or less)
- To prevent belt misalignment, the tension member alternates between S twist and Z twist.

Usage Example
Installation of the belt
1. Turn off the power to the machine

2. Check that they are on the same plane
Adjust the X dimension so that it is as close to 0 (zero) as possible. Place a straight edge against the side of the pulley and make sure that the pair of pulleys are on the same plane.

3. Reduce the distance between shafts
Loosen the bolts on the slide base or similar parts, and reduce the distance between shafts until the belt can be installed without force.

4. Apply tension to the belt
Align the teeth of the belt with the grooves of the pulley, and slowly pull the slide base or similar parts to apply tension to the belt. Because the belt is slightly shorter when there is no tension, the belt and pulley may not be fully engaged on pulleys with a large number of teeth. Slowly pull to ensure there are no areas where the belt and pulley are not properly meshed.

5. Pull the belt to the specified tension
Tension the belt so that the deflection load when pressing the center of the belt span (the part of the belt not in contact with the pulley) by a specified amount (16/1000 of the span length) matches the value calculated by the above formula.

6. Alignment Readjustment
With the belt tensioned, use a straight edge again to check the alignment. If there is any misalignment, remove the belt and readjust.
Especially in cases with a bearing on only one side, the shaft may deflect during operation, causing the belt to shift toward the side opposite the bearing. In this case, please adjust the parallelism of the shaft in advance by the amount of deflection.
7. Secure the slide base and other components firmly to prevent any movement.
8. Engagement check
- Slowly rotate the pulley and make sure that the belt and pulley are properly engaged. If the belt does not mesh properly, please check the following.
- Excessive belt tension or looseness
- Abnormal pulley outer diameter: The outer diameter has become smaller due to wear, etc.
- The shape of the pulley does not match the shape of the belt.
Tension pulley mounting method
1. Usage conditions for the tension pulley
Use the tension pulley only in cases where it is functionally unavoidable as described below.
· When used with fixed shaft spacing
If tension adjustment cannot be made by changing the distance between shafts, add a tension pulley to adjust the tension.
· When the gear ratio is large and you want to increase the number of engaged teeth on the small pulley
If the gear ratio is large and the number of engaged teeth on the small pulley becomes too low, add a tension pulley to increase the number of engaged teeth.
2. Tension pulley mounting
Adjust the alignment of the tension pulley accurately. Also, attach it to the slack side during operation.

· Inner tension pulley
When using a tension pulley from the inside, use a pulley diameter equal to or greater than the minimum pulley diameter specified in the catalog.
- For an inside tension pulley, position it on the slack side close to the larger pulley.
- For the tension pulley, use a toothed pulley.

· Outside tension pulley
When using a tension pulley on the outside, use a pulley diameter at least 20% larger than the minimum pulley diameter specified in the catalog.
- If a tension pulley is used on the outside, position it on the slack side close to the smaller pulley.
- Bending angle of the belt should be at least 140°.
- Please use a flat pulley without a crowned surface for the tension pulley.
- Avoid using an outside idler on urethane belts.
Belt Replacement Timing for Timing Belts

Tooth rubber / tooth tip / tooth fabric (reinforcing fabric) / tooth root surface / tooth surface / core wire

When the tooth fabric is worn and the rubber or core wire is exposed / when cracks appear in the back rubber of the belt due to increased hardness, etc. / when crazing occurs at the tooth root of the belt / when the side of the belt is damaged due to wear / tooth breakage / back wear / core wire breakage
Cautions and Prohibitions
Items to Check During Test Operation
Please perform a test run of the belt for several minutes and check the following items. If the following phenomena occur, please take appropriate measures.
Never bring your hands or body close to the pulley or belt while operating. Also, always make sure the belt has come to a complete stop and turn off the power before performing inspections or maintenance.
- 1.Check that the belt is not riding up onto the pulley flange.
(Countermeasure) Adjust the alignment of the pulley. - 2.Check that the belt is not vibrating excessively.
(Countermeasure) Change the initial belt tension (installation tension), or install an additional pulley (flat pulley) to gently press the back of the belt. - 3.Check if belt jumping (a phenomenon where the belt tooth skips over the pulley tooth) is occurring.
(Countermeasure) Increase the initial belt tension (mounting tension). If jumping still occurs even when the belt is tightened, it is possible that a force exceeding the allowable transmission is being applied to the belt, so please review the design again. - 4.Check that the belt tension does not decrease abnormally.
(Countermeasure) Make sure that the slide base and similar components are not loose. It is also possible that the belt was not properly engaged during mounting, so please re-tension the belt.
Guide for daily maintenance
For daily maintenance of the belt, please pay attention to the following items.
- 1.Check that the belt mounting tension has not dropped significantly.
The belt mounting tension may decrease slightly after several hours of operation as the pulley settles in. After installation, rotate the belt about 10 times to allow it to settle, then tension it to the specified value. No retensioning is required afterward. If the timing belt is retensioned, it may not mesh properly and the belt lifespan may be shortened. - 2.Check that there are no cracks on the back of the belt.
- 3.Check that there are no cracks at the tooth root of the belt.
- 4.Check that the fabric at the tooth root area between the teeth of the belt is not worn, exposing the rubber layer or core wire.
- 5.Check that there is no wear or damage on the end face of the belt caused by rubbing against the flange.
- 6.Check that the belt is not significantly meandering during operation.
The belt may move within the pulley during forward or reverse rotating operation, but this is not abnormal. - 7.Check that there is no water or oil adhering to the belt.
- 8.Check that the foundation is not loose.
- 9.Check that there is no rust on the tooth surface or flange of the pulley.
- 10.Is the noise level higher than usual?
Please check all of the above during inspection.
