A monkey wrench is a work tool that can tighten with a wider jaw capacity than an adjustable wrench without damaging the soft material or plating of the fitting. It is suitable for attaching and detaching various water faucet devices, and is mainly used for turning hex nuts in piping. There are 2 types of monkey wrenches: horizontal type that slides with a worm gear to adjust the jaw capacity, and vertical type that has a shorter overall length and is convenient for tightening in tight spaces. The jaw of the monkey wrench does not have a blade, so it is suitable for tightening plated nuts and flexible nuts such as copper, brass, and gunmetal. The maximum aperture is generally 60 mm to 80 mm, but the vertical shape has a narrower jaw capacity. Most are made of lightweight aluminum alloy, but for tightening that requires a large torque, there is also a monkey wrench made of steel and with a skeletonized handle for weight reduction.
